Parks and Recreation

The County’s parks and recreation system includes 63,000 acres of parks, lakes, trails, natural areas, and gardens, including the Arboretum and Descanso Gardens, and the world’s largest public golf course system. These include 87 regional and local parks, 344 miles of horse and hiking trails, 19 golf courses and 31 public swimming pools. The County has teamed with the private sector to offer additional amenities at its parks, including boat and bicycle rentals, hot tubs, recreational vehicle parks, equestrian rentals and boarding, and the Raging Waters water park.

Free Marina Del Rey Summer Concert Series
Supervisor Don Knabe announces the return of the Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series, presented free to the public, in Marina del Rey’s Burton Chace Park at 13650 Mindanao Way. The annual series features classical concerts on alternating Thursdays and internationally famed pop and jazz artists every other Saturday.

Remembering Our Veterans and Their Families
On Saturday, May 28 at Arcadia County Park, Mayor Antonovich invites the public to his 14th Annual Veterans Day event. Many surprises are planned including live entertainment and a special tribute to the armed forces co-hosted by weatherman Fritz Coleman.

Online Reservations Available for Parks, Dockweiler Beach Online Reservations Available for Parks, Dockweiler Beach
The public may now go online to make and pay for reservations at four Los Angeles County parks and Dockweiler Beach. Residents may access, review, schedule and reserve facilities and services, including swim lessons, picnic areas, RV park spaces, community rooms and conference quarters at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, Arcadia County Park, Alondra Park, Charles S. Farnsworth Park and Dockweiler.

Burton Chace Park Improvements Completed
Improvements to Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey, begun in February, have been completed by the County’s Beaches and Harbors Department. The project included making improvements to the sidewalks, walkways, planters, bike racks, security system, and sprinklers.

New Fishing Pier at Legg Lake
A new fishing pier has been constructed at Legg Lake, one of three lakes in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte. The pier is compliant with American Disabilities Act requirements.
